Since the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster in 2010, ongoing findings and research are delivering a clearer understanding of what such spills mean for the long term health of affected ecosystems. The oil disaster’s negative effects are increasingly clear, present and far from resolved, but with $16 billion set aside to address ecosystem restoration, the verdict is still out on whether it’s possible to achieve full recovery.
