Lake Winnipeg Walleye are Against the Ropes

Dr. Scott Forbes at the University of Winnipeg is following the plight of the Walleye, Sauger and Whitefish in Lake Winnipeg. He’s raising alarm bells about the state of the lake’s fish stocks. The lake itself is facing numerous issues that go beyond a commercial fishery that many claim to be one of the poorest managed fisheries in the world, which is a problem because it’s also the second largest freshwater fishery in North America. We continue our look into why Lake Winnipeg is against the ropes and what needs to happen to save Canada’s sixth largest lake from experiencing an ecological collapse.
